About

I'm Martyn Stopps, founder of Lablogix. I design and build integrated systems for scientific instrumentation, laboratory automation and experimental research, combining electronics, control, mechanical engineering and software into complete, reliable systems.
My projects usually begin with a specific requirement: a device or experimental setup needed to enable a particular application or experiment. This might involve developing a new system from scratch, or taking an existing concept and making it work reliably in practice.
I work closely with research groups and technology companies to define system architecture, resolve integration challenges and develop systems for day-to-day use. Often the challenge is not a single component, but ensuring everything works together precisely and repeatably.
I bring over 25 years of experience across life sciences, medical device R&D and aerospace, with extensive work in research laboratories and scientific instrumentation. My work spans the full development process, from translating scientific objectives into engineering requirements through to design, build, integration and commissioning.
Much of what I enjoy is solving the difficult parts of a system, where mechanical, electronic and software elements all need to operate together with precision. This is often where projects become challenging, and where careful engineering makes the difference. The projects I find most interesting are the ones where the problem hasn't been solved before. I enjoy working out the best approach, often the most effective and straightforward in use, and I’m happy to try something new when the engineering supports it.
Because these systems are multidisciplinary, the work involves selecting appropriate technologies across electronics, control and software. I focus on well-supported, maintainable solutions that can be developed, extended and supported over time.
Working with me
I work in a hands-on, collaborative way, supporting projects from early concept through to fully integrated systems.
Because Lablogix is a one-person practice, you work directly with me throughout — from the first conversation through to a completed system. This keeps communication straightforward and ensures continuity across the project.
The focus is on delivering systems that are practical, reliable and well-engineered, and that can be used confidently in day-to-day work.
Based in the United Kingdom, working with clients across academia and industry.
